The United African Community Organization (UACO) is a diaspora-led humanitarian and
cultural organization committed to advancing the cultural, educational, social, and economic
development of Africans in the diaspora, across the Americas, and around the globe.
Founded in 2000 by Professor Salewa Olafioye—a distinguished scholar, former United
Nations diplomat, and respected community leader widely known as Dr. Ola—UACO was born
out of a shared vision with a group of dedicated co-founders. Together, they sought to create a
platform that would unite Africans, preserve their heritage, and foster empowerment and
integration within their communities abroad.
From its earliest days, UACO has championed a variety of impactful programs designed to
address the needs of African immigrants and strengthen cultural identity. These programs have
included:
● Medical Outreach Services – providing vital healthcare access to underserved
communities.
● English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes – equipping new immigrants with
essential language skills for better integration.
● Housing Assistance – helping newcomers secure stable housing as they adapt to life in
a new country.
● Cultural Tourism & Exchange Programs – promoting cross-cultural understanding and
building bridges between Africa and the world.
● Afterschool Enrichment Programs – offering youth mentorship, tutoring, and
leadership development.
● African Language Instruction – preserving linguistic heritage by teaching native
African languages.
● Volunteerism & Cultural Preservation Initiatives – fostering community service and
celebrating African traditions.
● Nonprofit Development Training – empowering community leaders with skills to run
sustainable, impactful organizations.
Today, UACO stands as a globally recognized organization with members from more than 25
African nations, as well as allies from American, Caribbean, and Canadian communities.
Guided by its inclusive values, UACO actively collaborates with international bodies such as
the African Union, the United Nations, and other regional and multinational organizations to
promote peace, development, and cultural exchange.
Through its diverse initiatives, UACO continues to strengthen bilateral trade relationships,
expand cultural ties, and inspire unity between Africa and the global community—carrying
forward a legacy of service, advocacy, and pride in African heritage.
